How To Fix the Issue of a Bosch Dishwasher Not Draining
Many owners of Bosch dishwashers contact service centers due to the reason of malfunction of the water drain device. Two problems can arise here. In one case, the dishwasher stopped mid-cycle and refused to drain or perform any other actions. In another case, the device operates normally, washing and drying the dishes. However, after the end of the Bosch dishwasher drain cycle, the water remains at the bottom of the appliance.
We have highlighted the following error codes that flash on the control panel and may indicate that the Bosch dishwasher is not pumping water:
- E7, F7, E22, F22 – clogging in the drain tank of the dishwasher;
- E23, F23 – drain pump error;
- E24, F24 – drain system error;
- E25, F25 – problems with draining water.
If your Bosch dishwasher has a display, the error will light up on it. You can see the error on models without a screen by flashing a certain combination of lights on the control panel.
Water Does Not Drain Completely: What to Do?
A small amount of water is always left in the dishwasher after washing. It is present:
- In the salt tank, where it prevents clumps from forming;
- In the filter, where it protects the rubber cup seals from drying out;
- In the heat exchanger (cold water tank), where it is much needed for the moisture evaporating from the dishes to condense on the cold wall of the washing chamber, to which the heat exchanger adjoins.
Each of these situations is perfectly normal and does not require any actions or the help of a technician.
How To Unclog a Bosch Dishwasher
If your Bosch dishwasher won’t drain, we recommend first checking the following:
- You need to ensure the drain hose is not bent or crushed. Something may have been placed on it, or it may have been accidentally twisted. Water cannot physically pass through such a hose. It should be inspected and, if necessary, straightened or replaced.
- Whether the filters of the Bosch dishwasher clogged. These filters are located at the bottom of the machine, and you need to take them out, wash them with running water from grease and food residues, and put them back in. This should be done regularly, not after the appliance stops draining water or washing dishes.
- See if the siphon of the kitchen sink, where the machine drain is connected, is not blocked. The siphon can become clogged with food residue, preventing water from draining well from the sink and dishwasher. If it is indeed clogged, you need to clean it.
- The drain hose may be too long. If you think the hose from your dishwasher kit is too short and decide to make it longer, it may cause drainage problems. Do not make the hose longer than 2.3 meters because the power of the Bosch dishwasher drain pump may not be enough. The rules of installation and the maximum length of the drain hose are specified in the instructions, and they should not be violated.
- Whether there has been a one-time failure of the control unit. This can happen with network power surges. The simple solution is to unplug the dishwasher and wait a few minutes.
Another thing you should try is using the so-called Bosch dishwasher drain button – hold the Start button pressed for 3–5 seconds.
How To Drain Bosch Dishwasher If It’s Broken
Decided to manually drain the Bosch dishwasher without waiting for the technician? It is easy to do by following this sequence of actions:
- Disconnect it from the power supply.
- Remove all the dishes from the inside.
- Cut off the water supply using a special faucet near the dishwasher or on the riser.
- Scoop out the water from the chamber with any suitable container.
Don’t forget to clean the filters and rinse off any food residue.
Conclusion
It is very easy to prevent issues with water not draining from the Bosch dishwasher if you clean the filter once a week or at least once a month. If your Bosch dishwasher doesn’t drain after you’ve tried cleaning it, turn to a professional repair technician. He will perform Bosch dishwasher diagnostic, promptly find the cause and fix the breakdown.

Ask a Question
I had the dishwasher removed for three months for kitchen renovation.
Reinstalled, tested and loaded dishes. Turned on dishwasher.
When the dishwasher entered the draining cycle, it shut down and will not power up again. No error code is showing, and the display won’t light up.
Have the power to the unit. Even have power to on/off switch.
Note: We did not have the drain line secured as high as it should have been.
What is the problem? Did I burn out something?
Hello Dave,
It’s possible that the improperly secured drain line caused a problem, but it’s hard to say definitively without more information. Here are a few potential issues to consider:
Since you mentioned that there’s power to the unit, but it’s not responding, it’s likely an issue with the internal electronics. I would recommend contacting a professional appliance repair technician to diagnose and fix the problem, as they will have the expertise and tools necessary to troubleshoot and repair the dishwasher safely. They can also assess whether any components need to be replaced due to damage.
